Synopsis
Steam Radio follows an ill-assorted group of actors rehearsing and then performing a live radio version of "Shortish Encounter" (an affectionate Noel Coward parody). Despite arguments among the cast and technical problems with the sound effects during the broadcast, the performers heroically manage to keep the show on the rails. Well almost.The Cast List
- HERMIONE:
- seasoned ‘old-school’ actors, long-sufferingly married.(Laura Johnson)
- GEORGE:
- seasoned ‘old-school’ actors, long-sufferingly married.(Dr Alec Harley, Fred – Laura's husband)
- ROSE:
- fairly extrovert type, and a chum of Hermione's.(Mrs Bassett – the refreshment room manageress)
- MAURICE:
- gay and, with suitable encouragement, can be quite camp. In contrast to his radio play rôle, he is not at all cockney. (Mr Perkins – the ticket inspector)
- SUZANNE:
- attractive, somewhat emotional, and not long out of drama school.(Iris – the waitress, Dulcie – Laura's friend, Tommy – Laura's son)
- RICHARD:
- rather pretentious and bombastic, and not overly competent.Studio director
- TERRY:
- a hi-fi and train-spotting enthusiast. Studio sound engineer
- CLEANER:
- archetypal charwoman. Studio cleaner
